Canthal tilt describes the line from an eye’s inner corner to its outer corner. In our display, positive means the outer corner sits higher after head-roll correction; negative means it sits lower. A value close to zero is approximately level. It is one descriptive angle, not a verdict on the whole face. Our test reports both eyes because the two measurements need not match exactly.

How can I fix negative canthal tilt?+
First check that the drawn line follows both eye corners and that your head is level. A negative number describes their positions in that photo; it is not a problem this tool can diagnose. Can the same photo show positive and negative canthal tilt?+
Yes. Each eye is measured independently after correcting estimated head roll. One outer corner may appear higher while the other appears lower. Inspect both overlays and repeat with a relaxed, straight-on photo before interpreting a small difference. We show the angles rather than assigning one positive-or-negative label to your whole face.
What is negative canthal tilt?+
A negative canthal tilt means the measured outer eye corner sits below the inner corner after the image is leveled. Natural variation, expression and photo angle all affect the observation. FaceRater reports the angle in degrees without classifying it as a good or bad feature.
How is positive canthal tilt measured?+
The tool detects the inner and outer eye corners, estimates head roll from the line between the two eye centres, and rotates the coordinates to level that line. It then computes the eye-corner angle. An outer corner higher than the inner one produces a positive number in our convention.
What counts as a neutral canthal tilt?+
A measurement around zero degrees means the corners look approximately level in that image. We avoid a rigid neutral-versus-positive cutoff because small landmark and pose differences can change a value by a few degrees. Read the number together with its drawn line.
Why do my left and right eye angles differ?+
Faces are not exact mirror images. Head turn, squinting, makeup, glasses and partly hidden eye corners can also move the detected endpoints. Take another photo in the same neutral position before interpreting a small difference.
Does canthal tilt change my face rating?+
A little. Eye corner tilt is one of two proportions in the eye-area part of the harmony score, which carries 20% of the result. A tilt within the common range of adult faces scores well, and a more lifted outer corner is not marked down, since raters tend to find it attractive. A lower tilt is not a flaw either: it is one reading among seventeen.
Can a selfie measure canthal tilt accurately?+
A clear frontal selfie can provide an estimate, but it is not a clinical measurement. Tilt, rotation, lens distortion and landmark detection errors still matter. The overlay helps you check whether the detected line actually follows the eye corners.
