UNDERSTAND THE RESULT
What are hunter eyes, and how are they measured?
Hunter eyes is internet slang for deep-set, almond-shaped eyes with outer corners above the inner corners, little visible upper lid and brows sitting low and straight above them. The opposite, often called prey eyes, has rounder, more open eyes, level or downturned corners and higher brows. FaceRater measures three of these traits from 478 landmarks after levelling your head: the corner tilt, the lid opening against the eye's width and the gap from the upper lid to the lower edge of the brow. Each trait scores 0–100 between typical values, and the average places you on the scale. Depth (how deep-set the eyes are) needs a side view, so it isn't scored.
Read the exact scoring methodHunter eyes vs prey eyes
The two terms describe ends of one scale. Most people sit in between, and the same face can read more one way or the other with brows, hair and frames.
| Trait | Hunter eyes | Prey (open) eyes |
|---|---|---|
| Corner tilt | Outer corners clearly above the inner corners | Level or slightly downturned corners |
| Lid exposure | Little of the eye and upper lid shows | Rounder opening, more iris and lid show |
| Brow height | Brows low, straight and close to the eye | Brows higher, often arched |
| Depth (not scored) | Deep-set, shaded by the brow bone | Eyes sit further forward |
A look, not a ranking
Hunter eyes became a looksmaxxing buzzword, but attractiveness research does not favor one end. Well-loved faces sit at both ends, and expression changes either look in a second. Use the result to understand your look, then style it in the direction you like.

Hunter Eyes Test: frequently asked questions
What are hunter eyes?+
A popular term for eyes with outer corners higher than the inner corners, a lid opening that shows little of the eye and brows set low and close to the eye. The look is often described as intense or focused. It is a description of a look, not a medical or scientific category.
What are prey eyes?+
The opposite end of the same scale: rounder, open eyes, level or slightly downturned corners and higher brows, so more of the eye and lid shows. The look reads as warm and expressive. Many celebrated faces have open, bright eyes, so the term is not a ranking.
Hunter eyes vs prey eyes: which is more attractive?+
Neither. Research ratings reward eyes that look open and healthy, and both looks appear among faces rated highly. Use the result to understand your look and style it the way you like.
Can you get hunter eyes?+
Bone structure and lid shape don't change with exercises. What changes the look is styling: a straighter, fuller brow kept lower, a fringe near the brows and browline or thicker-topped frames read more hunter; a lifted arch and lighter frames open the eye area.
Why is my result different from another hunter eyes test?+
Tests measure different things, and many just ask a model for an opinion. This one shows each trait's value and draws the lines on your photo, so you can check them. Photo angle matters too: a camera above eye level makes eyes look more open and tilted down.
Is the hunter eyes test free and private?+
Yes. The scan runs in your browser, your photo is not uploaded and the result is saved on this device. No sign-up needed.
