UMAX ALTERNATIVES

Is Umax accurate? What the app does, what it costs, and free alternatives

Umax rates your looks from a selfie behind a subscription; whether any rating app is “accurate” depends on what it measures and whether it shows you.

QUICK ANSWER

Umax is an iPhone app that rates your looks from a selfie and suggests ways to improve; its results need a subscription (listed from $3.99 a week), and it keeps face scans for up to a year. Umax doesn’t publish how its rating is calculated, so its accuracy can’t be checked. A free alternative is a tool that shows its working: FaceRater measures 17 proportions against 2,560 adult faces in your browser and draws each line on your photo.

What is Umax and how does it work?

Umax (“Umax – Become Hot” on the App Store, sold by Improvement Tech LLC) is a looksmaxxing app: you take a selfie, it gives ratings of your appearance and tips to improve them. The App Store listing says the analysis results require a subscription and that additional scans require additional purchases. It also sells an add-on called “You as a 10/10”.

It is iPhone and iPad only; we found no official Android version. When we checked on 17 October 2026 its latest App Store version was dated June 2024, and it had a 4.6 average from about 51,600 ratings in the US store.

Is Umax free? How much it costs

The download is free, but the analysis results need a subscription. The App Store listed weekly plans from $3.99 to $9.99 and monthly plans from $9.99 to $24.99, plus one-off purchases such as “Supercharge” ($3.99) and “You as a 10/10” ($6.99). The listing doesn’t say which plan you’ll be offered, so check the price on the payment screen.

Because it’s an App Store subscription, you cancel it in your iPhone settings (Settings, your name, Subscriptions), not inside the app; deleting the app does not cancel it.

Is Umax accurate?

There is no way to check, because Umax doesn’t publish what it measures or how the rating is calculated. That isn’t unique to Umax: most rating apps give a number without its working, so two apps can give the same photo very different scores, and the same app can change with the angle or light.

A more useful question is whether a tool shows what it measured. If you can see the points it found, the distances it compared and the range it compared them with, you can judge the result yourself, retake a bad photo, and see which parts a haircut or glasses could change. A photo-based score describes proportions in one picture; it does not measure how attractive people find you in person.

Is Umax safe? Does it share your photos?

Umax’s privacy page lists selfies among the data it collects and says it keeps face scans for a maximum of one year. Its App Store privacy label lists photos as collected but not linked to you. It doesn’t say it sells photos; if you want them deleted sooner, ask the developer through the contact on its privacy page.

If you’d rather not upload a face photo at all, use a tool that analyzes it on your device. FaceRater’s free scan finds 478 landmarks in your browser and doesn’t send the photo anywhere; only a haircut try-on, which you choose, uses a photo, and you can delete it any time.

Free alternatives to Umax

If you want a free rating that shows its working, start with a scan that measures and explains. Then put the result to use: the biggest visible changes usually come from a haircut that suits your face shape, brows, glasses and colors near your face, not from chasing a decimal.

  • Free attractiveness test: harmony score, percentile, five part scores and the lines on your photo, no account.
  • Hunter eyes and canthal tilt tests, jawline and symmetry checks, with the measurements shown.
  • Hairstyle finder: twelve cuts ranked for your face shape, with what to ask your barber or stylist.
  • Mog Battle: compare two photos part by part, free.
  • Mia, the AI stylist: ask what would make the biggest difference, and see a haircut on your own photo (first one free).
